Over the centuries, have estimates for the planned height of the Tower of Babel changed?

Well obviously Heaven can't be reached by building a really tall tower, or the astronauts would have told us. So obviously those building the Tower of Babel were mistaken. So the planned height was probably just a couple hundred feet, and God decided to disperse them before they all became atheists upon realizing they were wrong about Heaven being above their heads.
