Something weird happened in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time?

I went to do those extra side jobs, and one of them was to rescue a Pokemon. But once I arrived at the floor, it said "You arrived at the designated level! But the Pokemon is not here..." and I could not successfully complete the job, BECAUSE HE REALLY WASNT THERE. What happened?
