Would a movie theater refund/exchange your ticket in this scenario?

Hypothetically, if an usher at a multiplex theater tore your ticket that's actually for the next day's showtime because you mistakenly showed up then, could you use that mistake to your advantage by coming back the next day with the stub BEFORE the designated showtime to ask for a refund/exchange? Is it your fault that the usher didn't pay attention to the wrong date on the stub?
